Equal Justice?

Hello Neighbors and Friends,

I've been thinking a lot today. I know, I know, I think too much. I noticed in yesterday's local paper where the city council had approved higher fines and court costs for city court. I realize costs go up and things progress, but jeez, I kinda feel sorry for these people with all the fines. I wonder why they increased the fines, more revenue for the city?

I realize the fines are suppose to be a deterrent against repeating the same crime, but these people get into a vicious circle trying to pay all their court costs, attorneys, etc; and then they work at low paying jobs and you have to pay rent, car payment, car insurance, car tag and not least of all gasoline. I believe that public humiliation would be more of an incentive sometimes than the fines, especially for seat belt violations and minor infractions.

They didn't tell me seatbelts weren't standard

I'm tellin ya officer, ole Myrtie done bucked me off when
I put that seatbelt under her tail.

The Quakers and Puritans used that method way back when, so why not try a different approach and give these people a leg up instead of knocking them down over and over again?

Serious crime of course has to be punishable and I know the officers of the court and law enforcement have to be paid so therefore the criminals have to pay a monetary fine.

What kinda bird don't fly?

I also saw where the new additions to the dog ordinance were approved. I read them in the local newspaper and I believe they covered about all the eventualities in cases of vicious dogs. Kudos to our Chief of Police and city attorney.

I'm sorry if this post is wordy and serious, but it was on my mind and if I don't say it or write it, I'll surely explode from too much on my mind. Not really.

My favorite grand daughter just called and ask for tips on how to fry potatoes. I love it when they seek our knowledge, don't you? She's my favorite cause she's my only grand daughter.

Will see y'all in a few days, I hope with something fun and exciting.

Until Later,
Okie Girl @ Home
