Vinita City Council Meeting 3/20/12

Good morning,

It's still raining here in our little town of Vinita. We needed rain, but I think it can quit now for a while. Here's a picture of Big Cabin Creek, just West of town.

March 20, 2012 around 4:30pm

The Vinita City Council Meeting was over in a record time of 28 minutes. Yes, you read correctly. I clapped because I was amazed.

The agenda on the Vinita Utilities Authority was nothing, but approving the minutes of the last council meeting.

So we'll jump to the city side of the meeting.

All the councilors were present, the Mayor, Director of Operations, City Clerk, Fire Chief, and Chief of Police. The city attorney was absent. He's gone out of town with his family. Everybody deserves a break once in awhile.

Of course they had roll call, then they approved the minutes from the March 6th meeting.

A property at 714 West Flint was declared a nuisance and abated. The property owner had been given a notice to clean and remove all trash and trim and cut and mow all weed, trees, shrubbery and grass.

Librarian Susan Walters recommended to approve the end of a probationary period for a part-time Library Assistant with a 25 cent per hour salary increase. This was approved.

Chief of Police Bobby Floyd Jr. recommended the end of a probationary period for a Patrolman with a salary increase according to contract, effective March 10, 2012. This was approved.

There was discussion about purchasing a dump truck for the cemetery. Cost is $27, 814.00 from Green Country Ford. The dump bed will come from Atlas Steel and the hydraulic system from Mid-Way Tractor. This purchase was approved.

There will be three new mowers purchased for the cemetery also at a cost of $36,188.10. The brand is Grasshopper and the lowest bid came from Mid-Way Tractor. Two of the old mowers will go to the Water Treatment  Plant and Waste Treatment Plant, one each, then one will be surplussed. The two from each plant will also be surplussed. So that will be 3 being surplussed.

The dump truck and mowers will be paid for from a large bequest that was left to the Fairview Cemetery.

Councilor Wisdom informed the councilors about the bids for two basketball goals for the North Park. One bid was for $3979.00 and one bid was for $3410.00. The lower bid came in just before the meeting and they did not have the information concerning the warranty. The higher bid included a lifetime warranty in writing, so instead of tabling it once again, they voted to accept the higher bid for the two goals.

The council discussed and voted to sell advertising signage at the Bill Morgan Sports Complex. A 4X8 sign would cost $200.00 or a 4X4 would cost $150.00 per season. Signs in the walkway area would cost $50.00 extra and all signs have to comply with specifications already adopted. This was approved.

Larry Pierce requested to reserve North Park on June 9, 2012 from 9am to 3pm for the Salvation Army Backpack Program BBQ Contest. This was approved.

The City Treasurer reported that everything on the financial side was looking positive so far this month.

The Semi-truck that was given to the city by Elliott Truck Line was repaired at the Vo-Tech at no charge to the city. I thought that was absolutely great! I love the words "NO CHARGE".

As Bugs Bunny would say, "That's all folks"

Until Later,
Okie Girl @ Home
