Don't Shoot the Messenger!

Hey Friends,

There's always something going on and this time is no different. I went out to the local cemetery day before yesterday. Expecting beautiful lush green grounds, was I shocked when most of it is dead. Here's some pictures to prove what I'm saying.

For those that grew up in Vinita or still live here, you'll know this is Fairview Cemetery.

Southwest corner next to North First Street
Oh I'm just getting started. Wait!

This is looking from the West fence toward the East
One strip of green left and it looks kind of yellow in places

This is straight South of the main gate kind of on the big hill

This is across from the preceding picture
The rest of this center section of the cemetery is DEAD!

I'm not sure where I was when I took this one, but I was
so overwhelmed by the devastation I just kept snapping.

This is looking East close to the South gate that opens to North Second St.

I took this picture because of the barrel. It is plastic and has a
corrosive label on it. Was this the culprit? I don't know.

This is the far East side of the cemetery looking North
To my right is a green strip left intact

You can see there's some green left, but precious little
If you didn't see the green trees and grass you would
think it's still winter

This is the ditches that run along the North fence. They look
as if they've been sprayed on purpose to keep the edges clean
You can smell a chemical smell when you get out of your vehicle

What has happened to our beautiful cemetery?   I certainly don't know, but I'm asking questions of council people. Has the soil been damaged? Was this an accident or on purpose? I can tell you I went to North Park to check out the new basketball goals and the ditches there on the South side have been sprayed too. They look just like these ditches. I'll update you when I find out what happened.

Now for some pleasant news about Vinita. The city council passed a resolution recently to purchase some basketball goals for the pad at the North Park. Here's the pictures. They are really nice goals with a lifetime warranty.

I was surprised to find 0 kids playing. Everytime I
go by, there are 6 to 8 kids playing basketball

Look how nice!

This is the skate park in North Park
We've had this a few years
Lots of kids use the facility
They closed the ramps in with soundproofing material
so the sound won't be so loud because it's across
from a funeral home. They also close it when there's
a funeral

So, I gave you the bad news first, then some positive news for our youth in Vinita.

Until Later,
Okie Girl @ Home
