New Craig County Community Building

Hi Everybody,

Well I goofed!  I went to the Grand Opening of Craig County's Community Center on Saturday evening, July 14, 2012. I forgot to take my camera, so no pictures until later, but I'll give you the stats and describe it as best I can.

The walls inside and out are sheet metal with insulation. The conduit and duct work and vents are overhead and are either painted or coated in what looked like a dark brown paint or sealer. Looks very neat and orderly.

There is a kitchen, then a snack area with tables that will seat around 60 people. There is a window at each end of kitchen, so all the rooms are easily served by the kitchen.

There is a  large foyer at the front door with a room to the right with a window and counter. I'm guessing this is a greeting area and cloak room. The 4-H kids had guest books on the counter there and had people signing, thus my reason for thinking it's a cloak room. ???????? Will let you know later this month when I post the pictures from the Craig County Free Fair.

On the West end of the building are two rooms for public use. One of those has a divider so it can be utilized   for smaller groups if necessary. One end of it rents for $150.00 per day or I believe the whole room rents for $250.00 per day. On the same end is another large room that rents for $300.00 per day. These rooms are going to be perfect for family reunions, school reunions, wedding receptions, etc;.

On the East side of the building is one HUGE room which is 12,000 square feet. It rents for $500.00 per day. There are numerous doors in the building, a storage room off the large room that will contain the tables and chairs and other accessories. There are also overhead utility doors to bring in tractors, cars and such. It was described as, "Anything that can travel that turnpike can be brought through the overhead doors".

The building is not completely green, but it does have water saving toilets and geo-thermal wells that are used for the heat and air-conditioning so they can be more cost effective. The insulation that was used will provide maximum heating and cooling efficiency.

Maximum occupancy is 1492 people, that doesn't include the restrooms. The people of Craig County several months ago voted to extend a 3/4 cent sales tax after the new courthouse is paid for, so this building could be possible.

Hooray for the citizens of Craig County!  We have a building to be proud of and for the use of the public.
Here's hoping this new building will bring in some special events to Vinita.

This view is the front which faces the Northwest. There is parking behind the building also.
It sits where the Faye Apperson building used to sit except this one doesn't face straight North.

This is a picture before it was complete. All the dirt piles are gone now, but
it will be awhile before a parking lot is paved. Landscaping will take place
when the weather cools off and we get some rain to support new growth.

That's all I got for now folks,

Until Later,
Okie Girl @ Home
