Hi Y'all,
We had an interesting evening at our house. My husband opened the back door and
was holding it open for the dog and in flew a bird.
The first thing I said was, "Oh no, that's a sign of death!" You guessed it! I was raised on
superstition and wives tales. It took a while, but finally the little booger flew out the front door.
We had both doors open and I was concerned that Miley(our dog) would escape. Harrumph! I didn't have to worry. I stuck my head around the corner and called her name and she crept out between the table and couch with a look of terror in her eyes. She's such a brave dog.
So I got to thinkin again. I sometimes do that too much, but my Lil ole tool man mentioned he had dreamed of a snake chasing us both, so I ask him this question.
"Did you kill the snake in your dream?"
"No," he answered. "I guess was too busy runnin."
"Well, my mom always said if you killed the snake in your dreams, then you conquered your enemy."
Oh yeah, I bet I could fill a book with old notions and sayings.
So far, we've had a bird in the house( oh yeah, mom said that was a sign of death) and one of us has dreamed of a snake. All this within a 14 hour time span. We're battin 200, goin for a catastrophe I guess.
When I was a kid, my mom and dad would hold each hand as we walked down the sidewalk. They always told me to jump over the cracks or break my mother's back, so I guess my indoctrination began at the tender age of 5 or so.
Here's a few more to ponder:
Dream of a death, hear of a birth.
Dream of the dead, hear from the living.
Dream of a birth, hear of a death
Dream of the living,..................... well it's certainly not hear from the dead, but I can't
remember what it is.

Hear somebody knocking and it's a sign of something bad about to happen, usually an accident or death. Guess what? Yeah, it happened this morning. We both headed to the front door and nobody was there.
Dream of muddy water and it's a sign that somebody is sick or dying.
I think everybody has heard the one about break a mirror and have 7 years bad luck. I broke one a few months back, so far so good on this front.
There are more wives tales, but you don't dwell on them until they fit the situation you're in at the moment. I certainly don't go borrowin trouble and I don't let them rule my life.
A preacher's wife told me one time that Christians shouldn't believe in these things, but it's part of my heritage, so it comes to me naturally. I do believe there is a difference between superstition and receiving warnings of impending danger or death.
I hope y'all have a good weekend and say a prayer for our soldiers and the U.S.A.
Until Later,
