Hello Friends & Neighbors,
Well the insanity has arrived. I went to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things this afternoon and apparently someone must have said something about a chance of snow. OMG!!!!! With Christmas around the corner and the mention of the S word every aisle was full of people. I tried to stay on the right side of the aisle, you know like the right side of the street. I kept getting detoured and ended up going the wrong way on a one way aisle.
I should have taken my camera just to show you NOT to go shopping anywhere. Our town has a little bit of traffic around five in the evening, but that's just people trying to get home from work. Today there's traffic in this tiny town everywhere, and I do mean tiny. Population 6,000, more or less. Salute!
I couldn't help but notice that the crowds were affecting everyone. One mother was trying to keep control of her shopping cart with 3 kids hanging on for dear life. She was trying to read the aisle signs and kept running into the kids and I noticed a dab of testiness the last time I met her in an aisle. One gentleman on one of those automatic scooters with the basket kept stopping and backing up because the aisle he wanted to go down was too crowded, so his back up BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! contributed to all the chaos. I grabbed what I needed and fled to the checkouts. I've thought of a few things I forgot, but I'm not going back into the arena again tonight.
I can distinctly remember when I loved the hustle and bustle of Christmas time and the crowded stores, but something has happened to my psyche. I guess age has some drawbacks, although I haven't noticed any others. That is an out and out lie. Forgive me, I'm still a bit muddled from my trip to the store.
Don't know if I'll see y'all before Christmas cause I've got to begin preparations. I'm going to try something different. My mom dug out an old recipe for a Vinegar Pie. I'm going to attempt it. I ask her what it tasted like and all she would say was, "I liked it." She's almost 95 years old and I think it's been so long since she ate it that she's forgotten, so this will be an experimental dish. I'm going to make a backup, just in case.
Have a Merry and Safe Christmas and when you bless your food, remember our troops that are in harms way.
Until Later,
Okie Girl @ Home
