It's a brighter day in Oklahoma! They've got a handle on the wildfires and the temperature has cooled off from 110 degrees, 112 degrees to upper 90's yesterday. That's like a strong cold front compared to what we've been feeling. We'll take what we can get and thank the good Lord.
There are 67 Indian tribes recognized in Oklahoma. The shield on our flag represents an Osage warrior's shield made of buffalo hide. The peace pipe and olive branch are crossed over the shield to represent peace in Oklahoma. Oklahoma was called Indian Territory before statehood. As you drive along the highways in Oklahoma you can see signs that tell you when you enter a tribe's nation. The Cherokee Nation, which is where I live touches 14 counties in Oklahoma.
This flag design was adopted in 1925, although the name
Oklahoma wasn't on that one. It's been changed and tweaked
a few times since 1925
We're almost smack dab in the middle
No pun intended, but we are a red state
This was the first Oklahoma flag adopted in 1911
Kind of plain isn't it?
Oh, and the 46 means we were the 46th state to join
the union.
That probably means since there are only 50 states that we were either die hard confederates, backward, or just plain stubborn.
Oklahoma City Memorial where the Murrah Federal Building
used to stand.
These times are at each end of the memorial
The reflection pool is in between, with all
the memorial chairs to one side.
There's a museum about the Murrah Building bombing and I recommend a visit if you find yourself in Oklahoma City when it's open.
The reflection pool at the memorial
The memorial chairs that represent each life that was lost to
domestic terrorists that day.
We are a proud state with a wonderful people. We reach across to help our brothers and sisters in their time of need as they do when we can't bear the burden alone.
Just a little personal side note, not even remotely related to this story. Little girl, Miley, has just broadened her social life. She now has a friend that comes to see her and gives her a ride around the block in her car.
Tool man said the dog has more friends and a better social life than we do. Sad isn't it?
Until Later,
